Fixing the "ads.txt Not Found" Issue on Blogspot (2025) | Step-by-Step Guide

If you're a blogger like me trying to get your content monetized with Google AdSense, you probably know the excitement of finally getting approved. I’d love to share with you my personal experience and how I resolved the dreaded "ads.txt not found" issue on my Blogspot blog.

My Story: From AdSense Approval to Confusion

It was around 2:00 AM when I received the email from Google AdSense: "Your site is now ready to show ads." I was so happy and relieved! After weeks of writing, optimizing, and applying, I finally got approved. Since I had already enabled auto ads during the setup process, I thought everything was good to go.

I relaxed, celebrated a little, and almost went to sleep. But before going to bed around 4:00 AM, I decided to visit my blog to check if ads were already displaying. To my surprise, there were no ads at all.

Curious and slightly anxious, I opened my AdSense dashboard—and that’s when I saw the alert: "Earnings at risk – You need to fix some ads.txt file issues to avoid severe impact to your revenue."

My heart sank. What did I do wrong? What even is an ads.txt file? That moment led me down a rabbit hole of research and tutorials. Thankfully, I found a solution and I’m sharing it with you here step-by-step.

What is ads.txt?

The ads.txt file stands for "Authorized Digital Sellers." It's a file you place on your website to tell advertisers who is authorized to sell ad space on your blog. It’s a requirement by Google to prevent unauthorized ad inventory sales and secure your revenue.

If your site doesn’t have this file, Google may not serve ads on it—which means lost earnings.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Fix ads.txt Not Found on Blogspot (Blogger)

Step 1: Log In to Your Google AdSense Account

  • Visit https://adsense.google.com and sign in.

  • On the homepage or under the Sites tab, you’ll see the alert message about the ads.txt issue.

Step 2: Download Your ads.txt File

  • Click on the alert message.

  • There will be an option to Download the ads.txt file provided by Google.

  • This file usually contains a line like:

    google.com, pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

  • Save this file to your computer.

Step 3: Go to Your Blogspot (Blogger) Dashboard

Step 4: Enable Custom ads.txt in Blogger

  • In the left-hand menu, go to Settings.

  • Scroll down to the Monetization section.

  • Find the Custom ads.txt option.

  • Click the Enable toggle.

Step 6: Save Your Settings

  • After pasting, click the Save button.

Step 7: Confirm It’s Working

After saving, you can confirm that the ads.txt file is correctly added to your site:

  1. Open a new browser tab.

  2. Type your blog URL like this:

    https://yourblogname.blogspot.com/ads.txt

  3. If you see the content of the ads.txt file displayed, it means you’ve done it correctly.

How Long Until Ads Appear?

Even after setting this up correctly, ads may not show immediately. It can take a few hours to a few days for Google to crawl your site and begin serving ads.

Also, make sure you’ve:

  • Enabled auto ads in AdSense.

  • Added the correct site URL in AdSense.

  • Verified site ownership if needed.
