Our Affordable and Relaxing Stay at Country Village Hotel, Cagayan de Oro

Finding a comfortable yet budget-friendly hotel in Cagayan de Oro can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you're looking for something that offers both peace and convenience. Back in November 2021, during the height of the pandemic, my husband and I—who are both based in CDO—decided to have a staycation just to unwind and refresh ourselves without having to leave the city. We chose Country Village Hotel, nestled in the Carmen district of the city, and it turned out to be the perfect escape from the stress of lockdown life.

Country Village Hotel in CDO

Discovering Country Village Hotel

We weren’t traveling out of town; we just needed a break from the same four walls we saw every day. We live in CDO, so we were simply looking for a peaceful spot within the city where we could recharge. I stumbled upon Country Village Hotel while browsing deals on the Agoda app, and it turned out to be a gem. Located on Villarin Street, this hotel is close to major spots like Limketkai Center, Gaston Park, Plaza Divisoria, and St. Augustine Cathedral — all just a few kilometers away.

But the real highlight of our stay was the amazing deal we got. Thanks to an ongoing promo, we were able to avail 40% off plus an additional 20% discount through Agoda. We booked the Cabana Suite, which normally costs around ₱3,800 per night, but we ended up paying just ₱500+ per night — and that’s for 3 days! It was a steal, especially for a relaxing break within our own city.

Checking In and First Impressions

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the friendly front desk staff who made check-in quick and easy. The hotel has a cozy vibe with a touch of the countryside — exactly what the name suggests. The lobby and common areas are simple but clean, and the peaceful ambiance made us feel relaxed right away.

The Cabana Suite was spacious and comfortable, with a king-size bed, air conditioning, a private bathroom, and a TV with cable. It wasn't ultra-modern, but it had everything we needed for a pleasant and relaxing stay. The room was clean, the linens were fresh, and the hot shower worked perfectly.

Amenities That Surprised Us

Even though we were on a tight budget, we didn't expect to enjoy so many amenities. The hotel features:

  • A swimming pool with a separate kiddie pool – great for families or just cooling off.

  • An on-site restaurant and bar serving delicious meals and snacks.

  • Free Wi-Fi in public areas.

  • Massage services (which we didn’t try but saw a few guests enjoying).

  • A playground for kids.

  • Banquet and meeting facilities – good to know if you're planning a gathering or event.

Everything felt relaxed and quiet, which we appreciated after spending so much time indoors during the pandemic.

Dining and Exploring

While the hotel has its own restaurant, we also appreciated how easy it was to explore the local food scene. Since we’re familiar with the city, we already knew where to go for good eats. Within a few minutes, we could reach nearby restaurants and malls like Limketkai Center. One afternoon, we just took a short walk and found ourselves in Plaza Divisoria enjoying street food and mingling with locals.

Customer Service

What stood out to us during our stay was how warm and accommodating the staff were. From housekeeping to the restaurant servers, everyone greeted us with a smile and offered help whenever we needed something. It felt like we were staying in a family-owned inn — very personal and homey.
